Nowadays everybody knows that the IP addresses of internet protocol version 4 are at the edge of exhaustion. The need to implement IPv6 is due to the highly inconsistent address format of version 4 of internet protocol. Google reported that now almost 3% of the Google users are now getting the next-generation internet protocol. And this number will reach to 10% by the ending of this year. The Internet Society, the organization that promotes the open development of the Internet, has quoted that by 2018 all the foremost websites traffic will be over IPv6.
Everyone in the networking knows that we should move to version 6 of IP before the version 4 of IP completely exhausts. The clock is counting the seconds. The old version is terminated as obsolete due to its incompatible address format; less mobility etc… the internet protocol version 6 is the new way of tracking the devices.
This new version was taken into action as the older was getting outdated. The engineers were working on it since last 12 years and now it is in the market for our use. IP addresses are the numbers that help to recognize numbers for websites, computers and other Internet-connected devices. It is replacing the original addressing system as it is near exhaustion.
The Internet Society quoted that “after nearly one year the usage will be at its peak and the usage of the new version of internet protocol will increase to 15 million and more which actually will be double of the world’s population”. Many countries have already run out of their addresses of version 4 of IP. India is also on its edge. By 2018 it is believed that India will also run its all technology on version 6 of internet protocol. Most of the Web users around the world will be unaware to the toggle to IPv6 since an IP address such as 74.125.71.103, for example, will still emerge in the address bar as google.com.
The non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), that supervises the technical construction of the Web, doled out the last batches of IPv4 numbers. ICANN has been labeling for a change to IPv6 for years but many websites and Internet service providers have been adhering to the old standard.
The Internet protocol version 6 is deployed due to the problematic address format of the version 4. The new version has address structure of 128 bits separated into eight blocks of 16-bits, which shows that it is highly compatible. The transform to IPv6 chiefly contacts Internet service providers, websites and network operators who have to be persuaded that their systems can work on the new online addresses and appropriately route traffic.
Google has also done with the testing of IPv6 and it is approved by them too. Therefore, if you are not still introduced to IPv6 it’s high time you did. As in all the other countries version, 4 is getting exhausted and it is reported that by 2018 India will also run out of the IP addresses of version 4.
